Medical Laboratory Technician - Night
Location: Columbus, OH

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 PM - 7:00 AM NOC (4x10-hour night shifts)
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $50 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Process patient specimens using automated and manual methods with care and precision
- Verify, document and report test requests and results promptly using EPIC
- Perform and record quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on lab instruments
- Monitor instrumentation for accuracy and troubleshoot sample issues to protect patient safety
- Communicate critical results to care teams and document follow-up actions
- Support training for new staff and medical technology students — share your expertise and help others grow
- Maintain a clean, stocked and compliant lab environment by following policies and safety procedures
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and regulatory readiness efforts
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required (Bachelor’s in medical technology or biological science is also listed for certain hire paths)
- ASCP-MLT or ASCP-MLS certification preferred; AMT certification accepted
- Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience required
- Recent EPIC/EMR experience and proficiency required
- Experience with specimen processing, accessioning, transfusion services, and automated instrumentation
- Familiarity with lab QA/QC, preventive maintenance and documentation practices
- Travel experience preferred (first-time travelers considered only with prior lab experience and good standing at previous employer)
- Flu vaccination required per facility guidelines (medical exemptions allowed); COVID-19 vaccine not required
Education
- Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (minimum requirement stated)
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or biological science noted for certain hire pathways (must obtain MT certification within one year if applicable)
Knowledge & Skills
- Specimen processing and proper specimen receipt/transport procedures
- Accessioning, pipetting, and accurate reporting of test results
- Urinalysis (manual macroscopic UA and microscopic UA) and analyzer use
- Hematology, coagulation testing, manual differentials and platelet counts
- Chemistry and immunoassay techniques including therapeutic drug monitoring and tumor marker testing
- Transfusion services and central processing protocols
- Familiarity with instruments such as Beckman analyzers, CellaVision and WAM systems
- Strong understanding of QC/QA, hazardous materials handling, proper labeling and transmission-based precautions
