Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality care to PCU/stepdown patients across a variety of diagnoses
• Start and maintain IVs, manage peripheral and central lines including PICCs, and perform phlebotomy
• Monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias to guide timely interventions
• Manage respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC) and tracheostomy care when needed
• Participate actively on Rapid Response and Code teams to support patient safety
• Administer and monitor medications per protocols (heparin, vasoactive drips without titration)
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in EPIC
• Float to equivalent or lower-acuity stepdown/PCU areas and support other campuses as needed

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state-appropriate) encouraged
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience; 1 year of solid step-down/PCU experience may be considered
• BLS and ACLS required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Proven ability with IV starts and telemetry
• Phlebotomy and line management skills (arterial, central, PICC) required
• NIHSS and previous charge experience preferred
• Procedural sedation administration/monitoring preferred
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• PCU/stepdown care principles and patient ratio management (approx. 1:3-4)
• IV therapy, arterial line, central line and PICC management
• Phlebotomy and blood product administration
• ABG interpretation and respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, trach care)
• Familiarity with heparin protocols and managing vasoactive/cardiac drips (no titration)
• Use of Rapid Response/Code systems and emergency response workflows
• Wound care, feeding tube management, and pre/post hemodialysis basics
