Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate, timely laboratory testing across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, coagulation, blood bank and blood gas/point-of-care sections
• Run and document quality control, analyze QC data, and take corrective action when results fall outside acceptable limits
• Troubleshoot, maintain and document analyzer function, preventive maintenance and instrument checks
• Perform calibrations, linearity testing and validations for new analyzers and test methods
• Process and handle specimens (including bone marrow/body fluids) and perform phlebotomy as needed with attention to chain-of-custody and specimen integrity
• Review proficiency testing results, investigate discrepancies, and educate staff to ensure future accuracy
• Call and document critical results to clinicians promptly and follow established reporting protocols
• Train, mentor and assess competency of staff and students; present in-service education and assist with policy/procedure updates

Qualifications

• MLT (Two-year Medical Laboratory Technician degree) or MT (Four-year degree or two-year + MT AAB certification)
• ASCP certification or equivalent required — or obtain within 1 year of hire
• 1+ years of related laboratory experience preferred
• Demonstrated accuracy, strong attention to detail and good clinical judgment
• Experience with instrument maintenance, calibration, validation and QC processes
• Comfortable working night/weekend hours (Friday–Sunday, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)

Education

• Two-year Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) degree required for MLT roles
• Four-year degree from an accredited program OR two-year degree with MT AAB certification for Medical Technologist (MT) roles
• ASCP certification required or must be obtained within 1 year of hire

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on experience in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology and blood bank
• Proficient in point-of-care testing, coagulation and blood gas analysis
• Specimen collection and processing best practices, including bone marrow/body fluid prep
• Quality assurance, documentation, proficiency testing and corrective action processes
• Instrument troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, calibration and linearity testing
• Strong communication skills for reporting critical values and educating staff
