Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture using syringe and vacutainer methods for adult and pediatric patients with skill and compassion
- Collect finger stick and heel stick specimens accurately and safely
- Process and label specimens per facility and blood bank protocols to ensure specimen integrity
- Use Epic (charting system) to document collections and communicate results clearly and timely
- Operate handheld collection devices and manage specimen transport and tracking
- Collaborate with nursing and lab teams in ER and inpatient settings to prioritize urgent draws and blood bank needs
- Provide excellent patient care and post-venipuncture site care while educating patients and families
- Maintain regulatory compliance, infection control, and quality standards in all collection procedures
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred
- Trauma Level I experience required (experience in acute care or ER draws preferred)
- CA state license preferred; pending California license accepted
- CPT I (California) preferred
- Experience with Epic or similar electronic charting systems (charting required)
- Pediatric phlebotomy experience a plus
- Travel assignment experience preferred and comfortable working in dynamic hospital environments
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in venipuncture, syringe and vacutainer techniques
- Experienced with finger stick and heel stick procedures
- Specimen processing and blood bank procedures
- Comfortable with pediatric phlebotomy and ER/inpatient draws
- Proficient documenting in Epic and handling phone/communication duties
- Familiar with handheld collection devices and specimen labeling/transport protocols
- Strong patient communication, attention to detail, and infection control practices
