Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate hemodialysis treatments while following established protocols and patient care plans
- Operate and troubleshoot Fresenius dialysis machines and CRRT NXstage equipment with confidence
- Deliver peritoneal dialysis (PD) support when needed, educating patients and documenting care
- Respond to on-call needs between Elgin and Mercy Medical Center promptly and professionally
- Complete required competency checklists and core skills exams to maintain clinical excellence
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and a smooth unit flow
- Maintain accurate treatment records, infection control measures, and equipment maintenance logs
Qualifications
- Certified Hemodialysis Technician (required)
- Minimum 1 year of dialysis technician experience (hemodialysis/PD preferred)
- Hands-on experience with CRRT NXstage and Fresenius dialysis machines
- Willingness and ability to provide on-call coverage between Elgin and Mercy Medical Center
- Current clinical screenings and immunizations per employer requirements (drug screen, TB, vaccines, fit test, etc.)
- DCI/BVP certification noted as part of credential expectations
Education
- Certified Hemodialysis Technician (required)
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Completion of dialysis technician program or equivalent clinical training (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis principles
- Skill in operating and troubleshooting Fresenius and CRRT NXstage equipment
- Good clinical judgment, infection control practices, and patient safety focus
- Clear communication skills for patient education and team collaboration
- Comfort with documentation, electronic charting, and completing competency checklists
- Ability to manage time effectively during busy treatment shifts and when covering call
