Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform accurate 12-lead EKGs and other rhythm strip recordings with professional technique
- Prepare patients for testing with clear, compassionate communication and proper lead placement
- Ensure equipment is clean, calibrated, and ready for safe patient use
- Document study details and patient data accurately in the electronic medical record
- Follow infection control and safety protocols, including fit testing and PPE use when required
- Complete required competency exams and specialty skills checklists in a timely manner
- Collaborate with nursing and providers to escalate urgent rhythm findings when appropriate
- Support credentialing processes by providing timely documentation for license verification
Qualifications
- Current BLS certification (required)
- DCI/BVP certification (listed as required)
- Completion of an accredited EKG Technician program or equivalent clinical experience preferred
- Successful completion of required employer competency exams and specialty checklists
- Ability to pass mandatory health screenings: COVID-19 vaccine, TB testing, MMR, Hep B, Varicella, Tdap, influenza, and required drug screening
- Active state license/certification verification as required by employer
- Professional communication skills and comfort working in a fast-paced clinical environment
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- EKG Technician certificate or completion of an accredited EKG/ECG program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in 12-lead EKG acquisition and correct lead placement
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and timely documentation
- Basic understanding of cardiac rhythms and when to notify clinical staff
- Strong patient prep and infection prevention practices
- Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance basics
- Attention to detail for accurate patient identification and record-keeping
