Roles & Responsibilities
- Triage patients of all ages and function confidently as both triage and primary care RN
- Perform IV insertion, start EKGs, and draw patient labs with accuracy and speed
- Administer and mix medications, determining proper administration rates and monitoring for reactions
- Monitor EKGs and other cardiac rhythms, intervening appropriately
- Provide patient-centered care emphasizing safety, infection control, and prevention of adverse events
- Use strong critical thinking to manage rapidly changing clinical situations independently and as part of a small team
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff
- Document care thoroughly and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Lift and move patients or equipment safely (able to lift/move up to 50 lbs unassisted; heavier with assistance)
Qualifications
- Current, unencumbered Utah RN license or Compact RN license
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in med/surg and/or emergency department settings
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS, PALS, and TNCC required or able to obtain and apply appropriately
- Proven ability to start IVs, obtain blood draws (phlebotomy), and start EKGs
- Strong critical thinking, emotional maturity, and ability to remain calm in high-stress situations
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ASN/ADN/BSN)
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency nursing and triage across the lifespan (neonates to geriatrics)
- Medication administration and safe dosing practices
- Infection control principles and patient safety techniques
- EKG monitoring and interpretation basics
- Phlebotomy and venous access skills
- Excellent oral, written, and listening communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work autonomously in a rural ED setting
