Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to patients in the PACU, following ASPAN standards
• Perform thorough patient assessments and monitor recovery from anesthesia
• Manage airway, circulation, pain control, and nausea for post-op patients
• Coordinate handoffs with anesthesia, OR teams, and inpatient units to ensure safe transitions
• Document patient status, interventions, and response to treatment accurately and promptly
• Participate in on-call coverage as assigned to support continuous patient care
• Collaborate with teammates to maintain a safe, efficient PACU with 15 bays

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or compact license as applicable
• Experience working in PACU or post-anesthesia settings; familiarity with ASPAN standards
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Comfortable with call coverage and weekend availability
• Strong teamwork, communication, and clinical judgment skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred when available

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and patient monitoring
• Ability to manage airway, pain, nausea, and post-op complications
• Familiarity with ASPAN standards and PACU bay assignments
• Skilled in accurate clinical documentation and handoff communication
• Comfortable working long day shifts and participating in call rotations
• Team-oriented mindset and ability to work collaboratively under pressure
