Location: Long Beach, CA
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Weekday options: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (day); Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM - 9:00 AM (night); Option for Monday-Friday 24-hour in-house shift (combining day and night). Weekend block coverage: Friday 3:00 PM - Saturday 9:00 AM; Saturday 9:00 AM - Sunday 9:00 AM; Sunday 9:00 AM - Monday 9:00 AM. (Rotating day/night and 24-hour in-house coverage available)
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $196 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide in-house neonatology coverage for a Level IV NICU, delivering high-quality care to critically ill neonates
- Perform advanced neonatal procedures including neonatal intubation and stabilized airway management
- Deliver procedural sedation when appropriate and complete required competency testing for moderate sedation
- Manage daily patient census (average ~14 babies) with thoughtful clinical decision-making and timely communication
- Lead multidisciplinary rounds and collaborate with nursing, respiratory therapy, and other specialists
- Provide 24-hour in-house call coverage as scheduled, ensuring continuity of care across shifts
- Work independently in settings without APP coverage, demonstrating strong clinical judgment and autonomy
- Participate in orientation and handoff processes to maintain unit safety and consistency
Qualifications
- MD or DO with completion of a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship (Neonatology)
- Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics/Neonatology
- Active California medical license or ability to obtain licensure in California
- Demonstrated neonatal intubation skill and comfort with advanced airway management
- Experience with Level IV NICU care and managing critically ill neonates
- Comfort working independently (no NP/PA coverage in this community model)
- BLS, PALS certification required; sedation competence or willingness to complete required exam
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
Education
- MD or DO; Neonatology fellowship completed; Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics/Neonatology
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in neonatal resuscitation and advanced airway management
- Knowledge of Level IV NICU protocols and critical care workflows
- Skill in procedural sedation, monitoring, and post-procedure management
- Ability to triage and manage complex neonatal cases with sound clinical judgment
- Strong documentation skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
- Effective leadership and team coordination during rounds and emergent situations
- Comfort handling 24-hour in-house responsibilities and handoffs
