Roles & Responsibilities

• Code and abstract patient encounters accurately using ICD-10, ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS
• Analyze records to identify reportable elements, procedures, complications, and reimbursement needs
• Research clinical documentation to support correct coding and reimbursement analysis
• Identify documentation deficiencies and communicate findings to clinical staff for improvement
• Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for other coding staff
• Maintain strict adherence to hospital confidentiality and privacy policies
• Use word processing, spreadsheet, and database tools to document and report coding activities

Qualifications

• CCS or CPC certification required
• Experience with ICD-10 and ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding systems
• Strong understanding of clinical content within the health record
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications
• Excellent reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
• Typing and computer skills preferred
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Available for contract assignment from 2025-12-12 through 2026-03-13

Education

• CCS or CPC certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Medical coding and medical record abstraction
• Clinical documentation review and reimbursement analysis
• Familiarity with hospital confidentiality policies and professional conduct
• Comfortable using PC applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
• Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret clinical notes
• Effective written and verbal communication when interacting with clinical teams
