Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic radiographic, portable, C-arm and fluoroscopic procedures with attention to safety and image quality
• Position patients compassionately and accurately to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest
• Select exposure factors and apply ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure for patients and staff
• Operate imaging equipment and PACS, process images and ensure proper identification and quality control
• Document all procedure details, medication reconciliation and results in the electronic medical record
• Provide patient education and practical instruction to radiography students and new technologists
• Assist radiologists during fluoroscopic and special x-ray exams and prepare/assist with contrast media administration
• Participate in on-call and holiday rotations to support continuous patient care

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology
• ARRT Radiography registration (required)
• IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required for practice in Illinois
• BLS/CPR (approved) — must obtain within 90 days if not current
• Minimum of 2 years of radiography experience
• Experience with portable radiography, C-arm, fluoroscopy and PACS/EMR systems

Education

• Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient positioning and strong patient safety practices
• Radiation safety principles (ALARA) and exposure factor determination
• Image processing, quality control and proper image identification
• Proficiency with PACS, radiology information systems and electronic medical records
• Comfort assisting in OR/ED bedside imaging and handling mobile radiologic equipment
• Ability to prepare contrast media and assist in administration
• Teaching skills for student instruction and mentoring new technologists
• Coordination skills for scheduling and on-call coverage
