Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert neonatal nursing care for premature and medically complex newborns
- Manage advanced neonatal airway support, including CPAP/BiPAP and ventilators
- Perform IV insertion and manage PICC/central lines and arterial lines
- Operate and monitor neonatal equipment such as giraffe beds and feeding/IV pumps
- Assist with unit procedures including circumcisions, LP assistance, and eye exam support
- Administer medications and infusions safely, following protocols and physician orders
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and carry out individualized care plans
- Float to nearby units (MCH, postpartum, newborn nursery) as needed to support patient care
Qualifications
- Previous traveler experience (explicitly required)
- Clinical experience working in a NICU setting with common neonatal diagnoses (RDS, prematurity, hypoglycemia, TTN, r/o sepsis)
- Proven skills in IV insertion and PICC/central line and A-line management
- Experience with neonatal ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, and other neonatal respiratory support
- Comfort assisting with bedside neonatal procedures (circumcisions, LP support, eye exams)
- Ability and willingness to float to mother-child/postpartum/newborn units and perform sitter duties when needed
Education
- Nursing degree (ASN/ADN/BSN) appropriate for an RN role
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong neonatal assessment and clinical decision-making skills
- Airway management and ventilator support for neonates
- Proficiency with neonatal equipment: giraffe beds, feeding pumps, IV pumps
- Medication administration and infusion management in neonates
- Line care: PICC/central line and arterial line management and troubleshooting
- Adaptability to changing census and ability to float across related units
