Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered Med-Surg nursing care to adults across the unit
- Perform thorough assessments and implement individualized care plans
- Administer medications and IV therapies safely and accurately
- Monitor patient status, recognize change, and escalate concerns to the care team
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and support staff to coordinate excellent care
- Document care clearly and promptly in the electronic health record
- Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatments, and post-discharge care
- Maintain unit safety, infection control, and quality standards every shift
Qualifications
- Current RN license in Virginia (or valid Nurse Licensure Compact where applicable)
- Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg nursing experience (as listed in the job posting)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required; ACLS and other certifications encouraged where relevant
- Current immunizations and ability to complete required background and health screenings
- Strong interpersonal skills, clinical judgment, and ability to work independently on night shift
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid Med-Surg clinical skills including patient assessment and IV/med administration
- Familiarity with electronic health records and timely documentation
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage a 12-hour shift effectively
- Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced hospital setting
- Knowledge of infection control, safety protocols, and patient education techniques
