Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care to adult med-surg and telemetry patients
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and perform basic EKG interpretation to detect changes quickly
- Administer medications, IV therapy and document treatments safely in Meditech
- Respond to emergencies using ACLS protocols and participate in code responses
- Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and support staff to coordinate care
- Teach patients and families about diagnoses, treatments and discharge planning
- Maintain accurate, timely electronic medical records and handoffs
- Contribute to a positive unit culture through teamwork, communication and a patient-first attitude
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Virginia or a valid multi-state compact license
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; med-surgical or telemetry experience preferred
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Successful completion of Basic Rhythm Interpretation test (unit requirement)
- Current CPR certification and up-to-date immunizations as required by facility
- Comfortable working with telemetry monitoring and bedside rhythm equipment
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong medical-surgical nursing fundamentals and telemetry monitoring skills
- Proficient with Meditech EMR documentation and workflows
- EKG interpretation and basic rhythm recognition
- Safe medication administration and IV management
- Excellent patient focus, communication and critical thinking
- Familiarity with equipment such as Carescape monitors, Welch Allyn vitals, wound vacs
- Ability to work in a busy Level I trauma hospital environment and manage 5-to-6:1 patient ratios
- Team-oriented mindset with a positive, high-energy approach
