Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality post-operative and medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population
• Assess patients regularly and implement individualized care plans that promote healing and safe recovery
• Administer medications and manage Baxter and Medfusion IV pumps accurately and safely
• Perform wound care, dressing changes and drain maintenance with attention to detail
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and smooth discharges
• Accurately document assessments, interventions and patient responses in Meditech
• Advocate for patients and educate patients and families about care plans and recovery expectations

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Virginia (required)
• Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg nursing experience
• Current BLS certification (required)
• Experience with post-operative patients, wound care and drain management (preferred)
• Familiarity with Meditech EMR and common infusion devices (Baxter, Medfusion) is a plus
• Strong communication skills and a team-player attitude

Education

• Active RN license required; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid medical-surgical nursing knowledge and post-operative care best practices
• Proficiency with Baxter IV pumps and Medfusion infusion pumps
• Wound care techniques, dressing changes and drain management
• Comfortable using Meditech for documentation and charting
• Ability to manage multiple patients with a typical 1:6 ratio while maintaining patient safety
• Patient advocacy, critical thinking and time management skills
