Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive trauma and acute care surgery coverage overnight at a Level II trauma center
- Assess patients, order and interpret diagnostics, and develop clear, actionable treatment plans
- Manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients across inpatient settings
- Support trauma surgeons with procedures and ongoing patient management
- Document all care accurately and efficiently in Epic EMR
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to maintain high standards of patient safety
- Ensure compliance with medical staff bylaws and privileging processes
- Participate in UCHealth mentorship, leadership development, and continuing education programs
Qualifications
- Nurse Practitioner credential appropriate for scope of practice; Colorado licensure or ability to obtain licensure preferred
- Minimum 2 years of trauma surgery experience required; completion of a surgical fellowship is highly preferred
- Proven experience in trauma care, acute care surgery, and inpatient management
- Proficiency with Epic EMR for documentation and clinical workflows
- Strong procedural skills, clinical assessment, and diagnostic interpretation
- Ability to work autonomously overnight while collaborating effectively with surgical teams
- UCHealth system clearance required; visa sponsorship not available (no J-1 or H-1B)
- BLS and ACLS certifications are preferred
Education
- Graduate degree as a Nurse Practitioner (MSN or DNP) or equivalent NP credential
Knowledge & Skills
- Trauma care and acute care surgery principles and practices
- Inpatient management and clinical documentation best practices
- Procedural competence and confident patient assessment skills
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies in a time-sensitive environment
- Experience working as a nocturnist and managing overnight surgical workflows
- Effective multidisciplinary team communication and collaboration
- Familiarity with Epic EMR and electronic clinical documentation
