Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage OBED (obstetric emergency department) patients with timely evaluation and disposition
• Perform and manage emergent vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections when required
• Provide inpatient obstetrics care for patients without a primary OB/GYN
• Coordinate and work with the only maternity transport team in Iowa for safe transfers
• Collaborate with Maternal-Fetal Medicine consultants and residents as needed (not primary supervisors)
• Document care and communicate effectively using Epic to ensure continuity and safety

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completion of residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology
• Board certified or board eligible in OB/GYN preferred
• Experience as an OB Hospitalist or in inpatient obstetrics with proven skills in vaginal deliveries and C-sections
• Active or eligible for Iowa medical licensure
• Current BLS and ACLS (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
• Comfort working 24-hour in-house call shifts and handling emergent obstetrical cases
• Familiarity and comfort using Epic EMR

Education

• MD or DO (Residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical judgment in obstetrics and inpatient care
• Emergency obstetrics management and rapid decision-making
• Experience with maternity transport protocols and coordination
• Proficiency with Epic documentation and order entry
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with consulting services and residents
• Ability to triage and manage high-volume OBED presentations
