Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub for operative procedures, providing expert instrument handling and anticipation of surgeon needs
• Assemble and verify case carts according to preference cards to ensure smooth operations
• Coordinate with Sterile Processing and materials management for timely instrument and supply availability
• Communicate clearly with nurses and OR staff to prevent turnover delays and optimize case flow
• Serve as a resource for SPD and Surgical Services on instrumentation and supply procurement
• Manage core communications, delegate tasks as needed, and coordinate breaks to maintain coverage
• Ensure the operating room environment is safe and equipment functions properly to maximize patient safety

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• American Heart Association BLS certification required
• Proven experience functioning as an OR scrub person and familiarity with preference cards
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with SPD and materials management
• Comfortable working 10-12 hour weekend shifts and adapting to variable case schedules

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program

Knowledge & Skills

• Surgical technique and human anatomy knowledge to support surgical teams
• Sterile technique and operating room procedures
• Proficiency with surgical instrumentation and case cart assembly
• Familiarity with preference cards and case planning
• Experience coordinating turnovers and managing OR logistics
• Ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
• Materials management and supply utilization awareness
