Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients and develop individualized nursing care plans that promote recovery and safety
• Administer and document medications accurately and monitor for adverse reactions
• Perform IV insertion and start IVs when needed, ensuring patient comfort and safety
• Change dressings and perform wound care with attention to infection control and healing
• Insert and manage catheters following facility protocols
• Monitor vital signs and clinical status, escalating concerns to the team in a timely manner
• Provide leadership on the unit by collaborating with ancillary staff and supporting team workflows
• Float to other Med-Surg units as needed to support patient care across the population

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential — you are a licensed nurse ready to practice
• Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg nursing experience required
• Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts and able to function independently in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated skills in medication administration, IV starts, wound care, catheter insertion, and patient assessment
• Willingness to float to other Med-Surg units and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams
• Current basic life support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain per facility requirements

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, BSN, or diploma)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills across the lifespan
• Proficient in medication administration, documentation, and monitoring
• IV insertion/IV start technique and IV maintenance
• Wound care and dressing changes with infection control practices
• Catheter insertion and management
• Vital signs monitoring and timely reporting of changes
• Team collaboration and effective communication with interdisciplinary staff
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage a 1:5 patient ratio safely
