Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and assemble case carts accurately according to preference cards to keep every procedure running smoothly
• Scrub in and function as the primary scrub person, anticipating surgeon needs and maintaining sterile field integrity
• Communicate proactively with operating room staff, sterile processing and materials management to coordinate instrumentation and supplies
• Review daily schedules with charge nurse and sterile processing to identify potential turnover delays and prevent bottlenecks
• Coordinate breaks, lunches and staff assignments while supporting efficient room turnover
• Serve as a resource for SPD and Surgical Services for procurement of supply and instrumentation needs
• Ensure equipment is functioning properly and the OR environment maximizes patient safety throughout procedures

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) — required
• American Heart Association BLS certification — required
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Operating Room (OR) experience and comfort with scrub technique, sterile technique, and surgical instrumentation
• Ability to work 10-12 hour shifts and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (or equivalent military program)

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in surgical technique and human anatomy
• Strong sterile technique and scrub skills
• Familiarity with preference cards and case cart preparation
• Instrument procurement and sterile processing coordination experience
• Clear communication skills for liaising with nurses, SPD and materials management
• Attention to patient safety and ability to anticipate procedural needs
