Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a safe, sterile operating room environment
• Check and set up instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures
• Scrub, gown, and glove self and assist the surgical team as needed
• Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments during procedures
• Perform counts with the circulator before incision and wound closure
• Assist with draping the sterile field and prepping the surgical suite
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization
• Help train and mentor new employees and students in the scrub role

Qualifications

• Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
• Trade or technical school certificate or diploma in Surgical Technology
• At least one year previous experience preferred
• Ability to follow strict sterile technique and OR protocols
• Strong teamwork and communication skills in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Trade or Technical School (Certificate or Diploma) in Surgical Technology
• NBSTSA certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of operating room procedures
• Expertise in sterile technique and infection control
• Proficient instrument handling and familiarity with surgical trays
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and adapt quickly
• Basic equipment troubleshooting and OR safety awareness
