Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a safe, sterile operating room environment
- Check and set up instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures
- Scrub, gown, and glove self and assist the surgical team as needed
- Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments during procedures
- Perform counts with the circulator before incision and wound closure
- Assist with draping the sterile field and prepping the surgical suite
- Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization
- Help train and mentor new employees and students in the scrub role
Qualifications
- Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Trade or technical school certificate or diploma in Surgical Technology
- At least one year previous experience preferred
- Ability to follow strict sterile technique and OR protocols
- Strong teamwork and communication skills in a fast-paced environment
Education
- Trade or Technical School (Certificate or Diploma) in Surgical Technology
- NBSTSA certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of operating room procedures
- Expertise in sterile technique and infection control
- Proficient instrument handling and familiarity with surgical trays
- Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and adapt quickly
- Basic equipment troubleshooting and OR safety awareness
