Roles & Responsibilities

• Follow hospital policies and procedures to keep patients and team members safe
• Clean, inspect, and prepare surgical instruments and trays for sterilization
• Perform sterilization processes and monitor sterilizer cycles to ensure effectiveness
• Transport soiled and sterile instruments to and from the operating room promptly and accurately
• Maintain competency records and participate in on-going training to stay sharp
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with OR staff, supervisors, and coworkers to coordinate instrument needs
• Assist with inventory control, restocking, and quality assurance checks
• Take on other duties as assigned by the SPD Supervisor, charge technician, or Director

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous sterile processing experience preferred; new grads who are eager to learn are welcome
• BLS required within three months of hire
• CSPDT certification encouraged to be obtained within 18 months of hire
• Strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and ability to follow protocols
• Ability to stand for extended periods and handle routine lifting associated with SPD tasks

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Sterile processing certificate or technical training preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile processing workflows and instrumentation preparation
• Sterilization methods and infection control principles
• Instrument identification and basic instrumentation handling
• Familiarity with hospital policies and procedures
• Clear verbal communication and teamwork
• Basic documentation and record-keeping for competency and sterilization logs
• Time management and ability to prioritize urgent OR needs
