Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Shift Type: Rotating (Day/Evening/Night)
Hours per Week: 36-40 hrs per week

Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients quickly and accurately on admission and throughout their stay
- Administer IV medications, therapies, and blood products safely and per protocol
- Provide patient- and family-centered education to support recovery and self-care
- Document nursing assessments, interventions, teaching, and patient responses clearly in the medical record
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate timely, high-quality emergency care
- Prioritize and triage incoming patients in a fast-paced emergency setting
- Maintain situational awareness of unit flow and assist where patient needs are greatest
Qualifications
- Current RN license for the state of Maine (compact privileges as applicable)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of registered nursing experience required; at least 1 year of critical care nursing experience required
- Must NOT be a previous employee of St. Mary’s (per site requirement)
- Clean license and background check (travelers with hits/actions on license/background will not be accepted)
- Current basic IV and medication administration competency; experience with blood product administration preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and emergency triage skills
- Medication administration and IV therapy
- Patient and family education techniques
- Accurate clinical documentation and charting
- Critical care nursing principles applied in the emergency department
- Familiarity with common ED equipment and monitoring devices
- Team collaboration and time management in high-acuity settings
