Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality respiratory care across adults, pediatrics, and neonates including treatments and ventilator management
- Manage invasive and noninvasive ventilation (PB 840, Servo 1, LVT 1200, 3100A HF oscillator) to optimize patient outcomes
- Draw, run, and accurately report ABGs including NICU capillary gases
- Serve as Charge RT/lead each shift when assigned, coordinating care and guiding the team
- Provide NICU rounding when appropriate and support ER arrests and critical events
- Perform telemetry monitoring and 12-lead acquisition on nights and weekends
- Float between floors, ICU, and NICU with a commitment to maintaining competency through skills checkoffs and validations
- Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, pharmacy, and other teams to ensure seamless patient care
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required or equivalent credential per facility policy
- Current BLS and ACLS required; PALS required for pediatric assignments; NRP required if working in NICU
- Experience with Cerner EMR or similar electronic charting systems preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage ventilators and high-frequency oscillator care
- Comfort working across acuity levels (floor, ICU, NICU) and handling ABG analysis
- Willingness to rotate weekends and holidays and cover NICU call if experienced
- Valid state respiratory therapist licensure or ability to obtain (California licensure preferred)
Education
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Care or related field; Bachelor's degree a plus
- RRT credential preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong ventilation management skills and familiarity with PB 840, Servo 1, LTV 1200, and 3100A
- Proficient in ABG interpretation and arterial/capillary sampling techniques
- Telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG acquisition skills
- Effective leadership and communication as a charge RT
- Ability to prioritize and triage across multiple units and patient populations
- Comfortable mentoring and precepting new staff during orientation shifts
