Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and EKG strips to detect rhythm changes and escalate concerns promptly
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for ICU stepdown/telemetry patients
- Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and discharge planning
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned — manage staffing, provide break relief and support unit flow
- Document assessments, interventions and patient responses accurately in Cerner EMR
- Participate in unit-based orientation and preceptor-supported learning (1-2 days floor orientation)
- Support unit safety and quality initiatives by following policies, protocols and COVID vaccination/declination requirements
Qualifications
- Active RN license in California (or compact RN with California authorization as applicable)
- Current BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS required
- Basic Dysrhythmia exam (UNA or Relias basic dysrhythmia within last 12 months acceptable) must be completed and submitted within 24-48 hours of acceptance (two attempts allowed)
- Comfortable reading and interpreting EKG/ECG strips and recognizing dysrhythmias
- Previous telemetry or stepdown nursing experience suggested; ability to manage a 1:4 ratio
- Ability to work every other weekend and rotate holidays per unit schedule
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; able to float to other Sacramento facilities as needed
Education
- ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing); BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- EKG/ECG strip analysis and dysrhythmia recognition
- Experience with Cerner EMR documentation
- Critical thinking for ICU stepdown patient assessments
- Familiarity with hospital workflows: RT and pharmacy support, charge nurse responsibilities
- Flexibility with self-scheduling, shift trades and occasional mid-shift floats
