Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care across floors, ICU, and NICU, including treatments, vent management, and patient monitoring
- Manage mechanical ventilation for adults, pediatrics, and neonates using PB 840, Servo 1, LTV 1200, and 3100A high frequency oscillator
- Perform, run, and report ABGs (arterial and NICU capillary gasses) with timely clinical interpretation
- Serve as Charge RT and lead every shift: coordinate assignments, mentor peers, and ensure smooth unit operations
- Cover telemetry and 12-lead responsibilities on nights and full coverage on weekends
- Assist the ER with arrests and critical procedures for infants, pediatrics, and adults
- Document accurately in Cerner EMR and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including hospitalists and intensivists
- Support a safe patient environment by following protocols, participating in skills checkoffs, and completing floor-specific orientation
Qualifications
- Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner license (or state equivalent) required
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required; NRP required if working NICU
- Experience with Cerner or similar EMR preferred
- Comfort with adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations; NICU experience preferred but not required
- Ability to function as a charge RT with leadership, delegation, and communication skills
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, every-other weekend, and participate in holiday rotation
Education
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor of Science preferred
- RRT credential required
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management
- ABG collection, analysis, and clinical reporting
- Experience with high frequency oscillators and advanced ventilator modes
- Telemetry and 12-lead ECG acquisition (and basic interpretation collaboration)
- Critical care principles for ICU and NICU settings
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR and documentation best practices
- Leadership skills for charge duties and shift coordination
- Strong clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication
