Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to step-down patients and their families
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and hemodynamic data to detect changes quickly
• Administer medications and IV therapies safely and according to policy
• Perform focused assessments and document findings clearly in the medical record
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Respond promptly to patient condition changes and escalate concerns appropriately
• Educate patients and caregivers about care plans, discharge instructions, and self-care
• Contribute to a culture of safety by adhering to infection control and unit protocols

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Louisiana or eligibility for Compact licensure
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or able to obtain
• Comfortable caring for step-down/telemetry patients and managing moderately complex cases
• Strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking, and the ability to prioritize
• Professional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team
• Per-diem clinicians should be flexible and reliable in shift coverage

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred but all qualified RN graduates are encouraged to apply

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with step-down/telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythms
• Skilled in IV therapy, medication administration, and titratable drips as applicable
• Solid patient assessment and documentation practices
• Ability to interpret lab results and vital trends to inform care
• Comfortable using electronic health records and unit-specific documentation systems
• Team-oriented mindset with strong time management and situational awareness
