Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough pre-operative assessments and prepare pediatric patients for surgery
• Provide clear, compassionate education and reassurance to children and their families
• Coordinate with the surgical team to ensure smooth patient transitions to the OR
• Administer medications and monitor responses according to orders and protocols
• Document patient status, assessments, and interventions accurately and promptly
• Advocate for safe, child-centered care and contribute to a calm, supportive environment
• Participate in orientation and ongoing unit training to maintain best practices

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in Massachusetts)
• Experience in pediatric nursing and/or pre-operative nursing (preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Strong pediatric assessment and communication skills with patients and families
• Comfortable working in fast-paced surgical/pre-op settings and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to complete required orientation and facility onboarding

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication
• Pre-operative preparation and perioperative safety practices
• Medication administration and monitoring for pediatric patients
• Accurate clinical documentation and electronic health record use
• Collaborative teamwork with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff
• Calm, reassuring bedside manner for children and families
