Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor laboring patients and provide expert Labor & Delivery nursing care using external and internal fetal monitoring
• Perform neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR assessment and initial stabilization
• Start and maintain IV therapy, manage infusion pumps and administer medications such as magnesium sulfate and Pitocin safely
• Provide postpartum care including wound assessment, fundal checks, lochia monitoring, and lactation support
• Assist and circulate for Cesarean sections and recover patients post-op with excellent teamwork
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to dysrhythmias and obstetric emergencies with urgency and clinical skill
• Accurately document patient care in EPIC and maintain clear communication with the interdisciplinary team
• Float to other units within the OSU organization as needed while maintaining high standards of care

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• BLS, ACLS and NRP certifications required
• EPIC charting experience required
• IV start skills and experience with infusion pumps required
• NCC C-EFM acceptable in lieu of AWHONN Advanced
• Previous travel experience preferred
• Willingness to float to other units within the OSU system as needed
• Completion of 36-hour orientation prior to starting independent assignments

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with external and internal fetal monitoring and recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Neonatal delivery room care including APGAR scoring and radiant warmer use
• Postpartum assessment and common procedures (episiotomy care, Foley management, fundus/lochia checks)
• Experience with IUPC and spiral electrode placement and calibration
• Comfort assisting with Cesarean sections and epidural anesthesia management
• Strong medication administration skills (e.g., magnesium sulfate, oxytocin) and infusion pump management
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation and emergency obstetric response
• Clear EPIC documentation and interdisciplinary communication
