Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients in the pre-operative setting and document findings clearly
• Prepare young patients and their families for procedures with calm, age-appropriate explanations
• Collaborate with the surgical and perioperative team to ensure efficient, safe handoffs
• Administer pre-op medications and verify orders with attention to pediatric dosing
• Monitor and record vital signs, and promptly escalate concerns to the care team
• Maintain a safe, infection-controlled environment tailored to pediatric needs
• Support family-centered care by answering questions and providing reassurance

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Washington state (or compact RN where applicable)
• Experience in pre-operative nursing and pediatric care (pre-op/pediatrics experience preferred)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable working with children and communicating effectively with families
• Willingness to participate in required orientation and onboarding

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong pediatric assessment skills and familiarity with age-appropriate interventions
• Knowledge of pre-operative protocols and safety checklists
• Skill in IV starts, medication preparation, and accurate pediatric dosing
• Clear documentation practices and comfort with electronic medical records
• Excellent communication and teamwork, especially with surgical teams and families
