Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality patient care on a 35-bed PCU/stepdown unit, managing adults and geriatric patients
• Monitor telemetry and continuous EEG, recognizing and responding to changes promptly
• Titrate drips safely (including Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure meds) following protocols
• Collaborate with the charge nurse and interdisciplinary team to ensure safe staffing and patient assignments
• Perform thorough assessments, document care in EPIC, and escalate concerns when appropriate
• Support patient and family education for conditions like cardiac disease, nephrology issues, stroke, and diabetes
• Demonstrate critical thinking to prioritize care in a fast-paced environment and help support fellow team members

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Nebraska (required)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (as listed)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications and NIHSS certification
• Experience with telemetry/continuous EEG monitoring and drip titration
• Proficiency with EPIC charting system
• Valid driver's license at time of submittal (used for radius determination)
• Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity)
• Ability to complete orientation and pass a skills exam (90% required on the open-book orientation exam)

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient care in stepdown/PCU settings
• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac care
• Medication/drip titration (Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure meds)
• Stroke care and NIHSS assessment
• Diabetes management fundamentals
• ACLS and BLS life support protocols
• Critical thinking, effective communication, and problem solving
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record
