Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to observation and medical-surgical patients
• Perform timely patient assessments and report changes in condition to the team
• Administer medications and treatments accurately following facility policies
• Collaborate with physicians, techs, and multidisciplinary staff to optimize patient outcomes
• Monitor and document vital signs and responses to interventions in the EHR
• Educate patients and families about care plans and discharge instructions with empathy

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (TN license or compact licensure preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med-Surg experience, with observation unit exposure a plus
• Current BLS required; ACLS or PALS encouraged depending on unit needs
• Strong assessment skills, IV therapy competency, and medication administration experience
• Ability to work nights and adapt to the fast pace of an observation/Med-Surg setting
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient-centered attitude

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid medical-surgical nursing knowledge and observation unit protocols
• Proficient in patient assessment, critical thinking, and clinical prioritization
• Familiarity with electronic health record documentation and charting
• IV starts, medication administration, and basic unit-based procedures
• Ability to manage multiple patients and escalate concerns appropriately
• Strong interpersonal skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration
