Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Day); On-call rotation: Friday-Sunday, 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM (Night) — weekend evening coverage every 4-5 weeks (per unit needs)
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $50 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate end-of-life and palliative nursing care to primarily geriatric patients with advanced illness
- Administer and manage medications safely using WHO Analgesic Ladder principles, adjuvant therapies and breakthrough dosing strategies
- Perform thorough intake assessments and ongoing patient evaluations, documenting care in EPIC with clarity
- Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to set meaningful goals and educate on symptom management
- Assess and manage complex symptoms such as pain (somatic, visceral, neuropathic), nausea, constipation/diarrhea, altered mental status and cachexia
- Support families through perideath care, death pronouncement procedures and postmortem care when needed
- Provide nursing interventions to prevent and stage pressure ulcers, and implement positioning and shearing prevention
- Respond to on-call visits per protocols and triage processes to ensure timely patient care
Qualifications
- Active RN licensure appropriate for practice in North Carolina (please have licensure ready for verification)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (Home Health/Hospice and Skilled Nursing experience required)
- Current BLS certification (required)
- Experience with EPIC charting (required)
- Comfort with medication administration and pain management principles (WHO Analgesic Ladder, adjuvant therapy, breakthrough dosing)
- Ability to perform basic IV/phlebotomy care and peripheral IV management is a plus
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations (Friday–Sunday nights) and complete required orientation (40 hours)
Knowledge & Skills
- End-of-life care and palliative symptom assessment and management
- Medication management: opioid dosing principles, medication tolerance, equianalgesic concepts
- Use of pain scales (verbal and nonverbal) and non-pharmacologic pain interventions
- Patient and family education, cultural awareness, and goal-setting conversations
- Pressure ulcer staging and prevention techniques
- Intake assessment/interview skills and understanding of Medicare/state regulations
- EPIC documentation and SBAR communication style
- Familiarity with ethical/legal issues around advanced directives, withholding/withdrawing treatment and organ donation (preferred)
