Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity, evidence-based critical care across a variety of ICUs by floating to Neuro, Surgical, Medical, Cardiology, CVICU and other units as needed
• Manage ventilated patients and titrate ventilator settings and vasoactive drips safely and confidently
• Use EPIC to document patient care accurately and communicate changes in condition in real time
• Perform and interpret cardiac monitoring and 12-lead ECGs, and respond to dysrhythmias and emergencies
• Start and maintain peripheral IVs, manage central/PICC lines and administer blood products with attention to safety
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Respiratory, PT, Pharmacy and Rapid Response to optimize patient outcomes
• Support transplant and post-cardiac surgery patients with specialized monitoring and post-op care
• Serve as a clinical resource on night shifts and help maintain unit standards for infection prevention and isolation precautions

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Proficiency with EPIC charting system required
• Demonstrated experience with IV start, telemetry, and ventilator management required
• Teaching-hospital experience required; travel/float experience is required
• Comfort floating to units of equal or lower acuity and adapting quickly to different team workflows
• Flu vaccine required per facility guideline (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing fundamentals and high-acuity assessment
• Ventilator management and ABG interpretation
• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring/ECG interpretation
• IV therapy, PICC/central line and arterial line management
• Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips; continuous IV sedation/paralytics familiarity
• Chest tube care, EVD/ICP monitoring basics, and post-op cardiac care (CABG/post-cardiac surgery)
• Phlebotomy, infection prevention, and isolation precautions
• Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and use EPIC for timely documentation
