Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize the operating room and OB surgical instrument sets before procedures
• Maintain strict sterile technique and ensure a safe sterile field throughout cases
• Assist surgeons and the OR team during obstetric procedures, anticipating needs and passing instruments efficiently
• Perform surgical counts and document per facility policy to ensure patient safety
• Collaborate closely with nurses, anesthesiologists and physicians to support seamless patient care
• Complete required competency checklists and specialty testing (Trinity-specific as noted)
• Follow infection control policies and participate in ongoing quality and safety initiatives
• Communicate with patients and families professionally when appropriate, supporting comfort and understanding

Qualifications

• Current Surgical Technologist certification or relevant state license preferred
• BLS certification (required)
• Successful completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist (required)
• License/certificate verification as part of onboarding
• Required health compliance: fit test, 10-panel drug screen, color vision, COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, influenza vaccine, 2-step PPD or IGRA, Varicella, and physical/health statement
• Prior OR experience, especially in obstetrics, is highly desirable

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent training preferred
• Additional specialty training or certifications in perioperative/obstetric procedures a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of sterile technique and OR instrumentation specific to OB procedures
• Ability to perform accurate surgical counts and maintain meticulous documentation
• Familiarity with perioperative safety protocols and infection prevention
• Excellent teamwork, communication and situational awareness in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Comfort with competency-based assessments and ongoing skills validation
