Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute setting
• Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and escalate when additional input is needed
• Assess patients, administer medications, and document care accurately in the EMR
• Triage patients and respond calmly and effectively to emergencies
• Supervise and delegate tasks to CNA/Tech staff while ensuring patient safety and quality
• Transcribe and clarify physician orders and maintain accurate charting and records
• Participate in developing and maintaining department policies, care plans, and procedure manuals
• Support quality improvement efforts and contribute to a positive, patient-centered environment

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska — or direct hire applicants must have applied for an Alaska license before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska RN license
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma); high school diploma or equivalent required
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months; TNCC preferred for ED nurses
• Clinical Competency Assessment and High Risk Competency as required (timelines per employer policy)
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs, cope with mental and emotional stress of the position, and work independently
• Experience: None required, though acute care, ED, or long-term care experience is preferred

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Associate degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma)
• High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• Medication administration and safe handling practices
• Triage and emergency response expertise
• Proficiency with EMR documentation and transcribing physician orders
• Infection control practices and adherence to safety protocols
• Effective communication and teamwork with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Delegation and supervision of CNAs/Techs while maintaining accountability
