Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, includes weekends (approximately 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks); may include standby shifts and floating coverage across ICU and telemetry

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough neuro-focused assessments and monitor changes in patient status
• Manage intracranial pressure monitoring and care for EVDs with precision
• Operate and manage ventilators and coordinate care with respiratory therapy
• Provide high-acuity critical care for neurosurgical and complex spine patients
• Document care accurately and timely in Cerner to support continuity and safety
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, RT, and pharmacy
• Maintain sterile technique for procedures and complete SIMs Lab competencies
• Float to telemetry as needed and safely manage higher census or specialty needs

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible for practice in Arizona (license to submit accepted)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• 2 years of ICU experience in a large (450+ bed) hospital preferred; will consider less than 2 years if candidate has at least 18 months of Neuro ICU experience
• EVD (external ventricular drain) experience required
• Neuro ICU experience and strong neuro assessment skills including ICP monitoring
• 3-6 months travel experience preferred
• Willingness to complete and pass the DYS exam prior to accepting (two attempts allowed)
• Must complete and pass facility SIMs Lab competencies (Foley insertion, central line dressing changes or port-a-cath depending on unit)
• Ability to float across ICU and telemetry units and accept patient loads per unit policy
• Travel teams must have their own vehicle; facility policy requires natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men to be clean-shaven for fit testing

Education

• Active RN license (Registered Nurse)
• BSN required

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro assessment and ICU critical care nursing
• ICP monitoring and EVD management
• Ventilator management and collaboration with respiratory therapy
• Telemetry monitoring and Phillips monitor familiarity
• Electronic charting in Cerner
• Wound care, restraints, and safe patient lifts
• Central line dressing care and Foley catheter skills
• Strong sterile technique and procedural competency
