Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform radiologic examinations for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients using standard and special procedures
- Prepare rooms and equipment, set up sterile trays and ensure all supplies are available for exams
- Position patients accurately and compassionately to obtain diagnostic-quality images
- Operate diagnostic and fluoroscopic equipment, portable x-ray units and C-arm machines safely and proficiently
- Administer or assist with IV contrast per protocol, complete consent processes, and monitor patients for reactions
- Utilize PACS and RIS for image transmission, exam logging, and accurate charge entry
- Provide direct patient care: take vitals, transport patients, and ensure monitoring equipment is managed during exams
- Respond to emergencies and perform CPR until the code team arrives; maintain current CPR certification
- Teach, mentor and supervise student technologists and help them complete proper documentation
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and coordinate with maintenance to minimize downtime
Qualifications
- Registry-eligible or registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or enrolled in the 2nd year of an accredited Radiology program
- Current CPR certification and willingness to maintain certification throughout assignment
- Preferred: 2 years of experience working in a radiology department
- Comfortable with patient lifting, transfers and physical demands of imaging (able to assist with heavy patients)
- Able to carry beeper and respond 24/7 during assigned on-call rotations
- Familiarity with IV contrast administration protocols, sterile technique and fluoroscopic assistance
Education
- ARRT registry required or enrolled in 2nd year of an accredited Radiology program
- High School diploma or GED (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Radiography fundamentals and patient positioning expertise
- Proficient with PACS and Radiology Information Systems (RIS)
- Fluoroscopy, portable x-ray and C-arm operation
- Image processing and Computer Radiography (CR) workflows
- Radiation protection best practices and safety protocols
- IV contrast administration awareness and patient monitoring
- Equipment operation and basic troubleshooting
- Strong communication, documentation and HIPAA-compliant information handling
