Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to neonates in the NICU and nursery
• Perform neonatal assessments, monitor vital signs, and document clinical changes accurately
• Lead infant resuscitation efforts when required, following NRP protocols
• Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, and the interdisciplinary team on care plans
• Educate and support families on newborn care, feeding, and discharge planning
• Maintain adherence to ACLS/BLS standards and facility policies for patient safety
• Assist with unit workflows to ensure smooth handoffs and continuity of care during night shifts

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Louisiana (compact license accepted if applicable)
• Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification — required
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications — required
• Experience working in a NICU and/or newborn nursery preferred
• Comfort and proficiency with neonatal assessment, monitoring equipment, and documentation
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively on night shift teams

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Active RN license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of neonatal physiology and common NICU conditions
• Skilled in neonatal resuscitation and emergency response protocols
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate charting
• Ability to educate and counsel new parents with empathy and clarity
• Good teamwork and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
