Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-operative and recovery care to orthopedic patients, helping them regain mobility and independence
• Perform dressing changes and suture/staple removal with attention to infection prevention and comfort
• Manage Foley catheters and NG tubes safely and according to unit protocols
• Maintain and remove Wound VAC devices and monitor wound healing progress
• Assist with and supervise use of CPM devices and patient mobilization equipment
• Document assessments and interventions accurately in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with surgeons, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
• Support patient and family education so patients leave confident in their recovery plan
• Act as a team player on a fast-paced unit, stepping into other med-surg roles when needed

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina RN license (required)
• BLS (required)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience — ortho or med-surg experience preferred
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR is a plus
• Comfort and experience with wound care, Foley and NG tube management, and Wound VAC
• Experience using patient lift equipment (Sara Stedy, Maxi Move, Sky lifts) and safe patient handling
• Strong teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to provide family-like care in a busy unit

Knowledge & Skills

• Orthopedic post-op care and mobilization principles
• Wound care techniques, dressing changes, and Wound VAC maintenance
• Management of Foley catheters and nasogastric tubes
• Use and troubleshooting of CPMs and other ortho-specific equipment
• Accurate assessment of vitals and post-op complications
• Proficient Cerner documentation and charting
• Safe patient handling and operation of lift devices
• Ability to manage patient loads consistent with a busy ortho floor
