Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-operative and critical cardiac care for CVICU patients with compassion and attention to detail
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamics, titrate vasoactive medications, and respond to changes swiftly
• Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Manage ventilators, invasive lines, drains, and temporary mechanical circulatory support as indicated
• Perform thorough assessments, accurate documentation, and timely handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Participate in emergency responses and advanced cardiac life support efforts when needed
• Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge plans

Qualifications

• Active RN license (TX or multi-state compact license as applicable)
• Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU or relevant cardiac critical care experience
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS strongly preferred
• Comfort with advanced hemodynamic monitoring and post-op cardiac protocols
• Excellent communication, clinical judgment, and teamwork skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of post-operative cardiac care and cardiac ICU workflows
• Skill in hemodynamic monitoring, titration of vasoactive drips, and interpretation of invasive pressures
• Experience with ventilator management and weaning in the critically ill cardiac patient
• Proven ability to manage central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, and temporary mechanical support
• Competence in timely, precise documentation and effective interdisciplinary communication
