Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert, compassionate labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care for mothers and newborns
- Monitor maternal and fetal status and act decisively to ensure safety and positive outcomes
- Administer and titrate IV medications including Pitocin, magnesium sulfate and nifedipine per protocols
- Document care thoroughly and accurately using EPIC charting
- Support breastfeeding and provide newborn/postpartum education to families
- Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesia, surgical and neonatal teams to coordinate care
- Serve as a charge/resource when needed and participate in unit-based teamwork and quality initiatives
- Complete required orientation and pass competency assessments to maintain high clinical standards
Qualifications
- Active RN license eligible for work in Nebraska
- BLS and NRP certifications required
- Minimum 3 years of labor & delivery nursing experience
- Current driver’s license required at submittal (radius rule applies)
- Comfortable titrating drips and managing obstetric medications
- Proficiency with EPIC charting preferred/expected
- Ability to pass an open-book orientation skills exam (90% required)
- Willingness to follow unit policies (e.g., no artificial nails in patient care areas)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of AWHONN guidelines and L&D staffing ratios (1:3; 1:1 for active labor)
- Skilled in fetal monitoring and maternal assessment
- Experience with IV medication titration and obstetric infusions
- Postpartum and antepartum care, including GYN post-surgical care
- Breastfeeding support and patient education skills
- Comfortable working in acute care LDRP settings with EPIC charting
