Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver patient-centered, evidence-based nursing care for medical-surgical and specialty surgery patients
- Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care
- Execute safe, accurate clinical interventions and document care clearly in the medical record
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team using SBAR and other communication tools to optimize outcomes
- Provide patient and family education focused on recovery, discharge planning, and safety
- Serve as a clinical resource and model professional behavior that supports a positive unit culture
- Participate in unit-based council (shared governance) and quality improvement activities
Qualifications
- Active Michigan nursing license (provide LARA and Nursys verification)
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- 2+ years of medical-surgical (MS) nursing experience (required)
- Completed RN skills checklist within the past year (required for RN specialties)
- Travel nursing experience preferred but not required
- Ability to pass health system-wide profile standards and any facility-specific onboarding
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and clinical documentation
- Care planning using clinical pathways and evidence-based practice
- Interdisciplinary communication and SBAR proficiency
- Patient education and safety-focused care delivery
- Time management and prioritization in a fast-paced unit
- Experience with general, vascular, bariatric, plastic and trauma surgery care
- Familiarity with stroke unit protocols and post-op nursing care
- Leadership through shared governance and teamwork
