Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality progressive care to PCU patients, prioritizing safety and excellent clinical outcomes
• Manage critically ill and step-down patients, including ventilator management and advanced monitoring
• Perform and assist with common unit procedures (A-lines, central line care, thoracentesis support, dressing changes)
• Accurately document patient care and communicate clinical changes using Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists and interdisciplinary team members to develop and execute care plans
• Triage and respond to rapid changes in patient condition with sound critical thinking and ACLS protocols
• Support unit staffing and teamwork, mentoring peers and fostering a positive work environment
• Adhere to hospital policies, infection control standards, and safety protocols while advocating for patients

Qualifications

• Current RN license (eligible to practice in North Carolina)
• Minimum 2+ years of nursing experience, with ICU, Step-down or Progressive Care (PCU) experience preferred
• At least one prior travel assignment (required)
• Current ACLS, BLS and NIHSS certifications (required)
• Comfort and competence with ventilator management and critical care skills
• Ability to work night shifts and meet every-other-weekend scheduling expectations
• Strong teamwork, communication skills, and a patient-centered mindset

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Current RN licensure required; specialty certifications encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Progressive Care (PCU) and step-down patient management
• Critical care skills including ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring
• Experience with A-lines, central lines, thoracentesis support, and dressing changes
• Proficient documentation and workflows in Cerner EMR
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS application in acute settings
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and emergency response skills
• Ability to function in a fast-paced, collaborative unit environment
