Shift Type: Rotating nights, 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (includes weekends; typically ~4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks). Night shift with floating between ICU and Tele units as needed.
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert neuro-critical care: perform thorough neuro assessments and monitor ICP using established protocols
- Manage external ventricular drains (EVDs) and maintain strict sterile technique during procedures
- Care for complex post-op neurosurgical patients including brain tumor, craniotomies and spine surgeries
- Operate and monitor ventilators and Phillips telemetry systems as part of ventilator/patient management
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (RT, pharmacy, neurosurgery) to deliver coordinated, high-quality care
- Document patient care accurately in Cerner and communicate clear handoffs during float assignments
- Complete required SIMs lab competencies (Foley insertion, central line dressing changes / port-a-cath where applicable)
- Serve as a dependable ICU clinician at a 1:2 ratio and support unit staffing needs, including standby shifts
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential and eligibility to work in AZ (license submission acceptable - employer willing to wait)
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
- Level 1 Trauma experience is a must
- EVD experience and solid ICP monitoring skills required
- Strong neuro assessment skills and comfort with high-acuity neuro patients
- ICU experience: generally 2 years in a large (450+ bed) facility required — may consider 18 months if coming from a Neuro ICU unit
- Comfort floating to Tele units (may carry up to 4:1 on Tele) and willingness to complete SIMs lab competencies
- First-time travel clinicians accepted; must pass required pre-employment and on-site pass/fail exams (DYS exam prior to accepting and Day 1 orientation exam)
- Must meet facility appearance/safety rules: natural hair color, no facial piercings, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Travel teams must have their own vehicles and comply with a 50-mile radius rule per submission guidelines
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in neuro ICU care, neuro assessments and ICP monitoring
- Competence with EVD management and maintenance of sterile field
- Familiarity with telemetry (Phillips monitors) and Cerner charting
- Ventilator management and coordination with respiratory therapy
- Skills in Foley catheter insertion, central line dressing changes and port-a-cath care
- Wound care, safe patient lifts and restraint procedures
- Ability to function in high-acuity, fast-paced critical care settings and adapt while floating
