Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate direct patient care in a mental health setting, including assistance with activities of daily living
• Take and record vital signs, document findings, and report clinical changes to the care team
• Support clinicians during assessments and treatment activities, ensuring patient dignity and safety
• Perform routine clinical tasks such as specimen collection, wound care basics, and medication administration as allowed by scope
• Maintain accurate, timely electronic medical records and complete required documentation
• Follow infection control, safety, and correctional facility protocols to maintain a secure treatment environment
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to support coordinated care
• Participate in team huddles and contribute to quality improvement and patient-centered initiatives

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant certification or current CNA certification (MA/CNA candidates are prioritized)
• Previous experience in mental health, behavioral health, or correctional healthcare preferred
• Current BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
• Ability to pass facility background checks, health screenings, and required clearances for correctional settings
• Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and the ability to de-escalate and manage challenging situations
• Comfort working within structured facility policies and collaborating with security and clinical staff

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical training preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency taking vitals, basic clinical assessments, and routine procedures
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) documentation and charting best practices
• Understanding of mental health conditions, therapeutic communication, and patient-centered care
• Infection control principles and safe handling of clinical equipment
• Ability to follow chain-of-command and facility protocols in a correctional environment
• Good time management, organization, and strong verbal/written communication skills
