Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize mechanical ventilation to improve outcomes for critically ill patients
- Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot ventilators and lead evidence-based weaning trials
- Deliver advanced respiratory care including noninvasive ventilation and targeted inhaled therapies
- Perform arterial punctures and collect arterial blood gases to guide clinical decisions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and execute patient-centered respiratory plans
- Educate patients and families on respiratory devices and provide clear, safe discharge instructions
- Document care accurately and communicate patient changes clearly during handoffs
Qualifications
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT) in Missouri or eligible to obtain Missouri licensure
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor's preferred
- Current BLS required; ACLS preferred
- Proven experience in critical care and ventilator management
- Comfortable performing arterial puncture and other advanced respiratory procedures
- Night-shift experience is a plus
- Strong teamwork, clear communication skills, and a patient-first mindset
Education
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy (required)
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management
- Ventilator weaning strategies and noninvasive ventilation
- Administration of inhaled medications, including inhaled nitric oxide
- Heliox administration and targeted inhaled therapies
- Arterial blood gas collection and interpretation
- Critical care monitoring and rapid patient assessment
- Vent troubleshooting and advanced respiratory procedures
- Familiarity with NICU respiratory needs and NRP protocols (preferred)
