Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons and the perioperative team during orthopedic procedures to deliver excellent patient outcomes
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field using strict asepsis and sterile technique to protect patients
• Verify, set up, and troubleshoot instruments and OR equipment before each case to keep the room running smoothly
• Operate and troubleshoot electrosurgical, video, and diagnostic equipment as needed
• Anticipate surgical team needs and respond quickly to ensure efficient, patient-centered care
• Communicate clearly and professionally with circulating RNs, surgeons, and ancillary staff about technique or equipment concerns
• Collaborate with Sterile Processing and Materials Management to ensure instrument availability and smooth case flow
• Respond professionally to on-call responsibilities and urgent situations to maintain patient safety

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent Surgical Tech certification required
• Current CPR/BLS certification required
• Proven orthopedic surgical experience, ready to scrub orthopedic cases from day one
• Comfortable with on-call responsibilities including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
• Strong communication skills and a patient-focused, team-oriented mindset
• Demonstrated competency with common OR equipment and specialty instruments

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent Surgical Tech certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Mastery of sterile technique and a strong sterile conscience
• Solid understanding of asepsis and infection prevention principles
• Familiarity with orthopedic instruments, implants, and procedural workflows
• Experience with electrosurgical units, endoscopy and video equipment, and disposable surgical tools
• Ability to verify and troubleshoot OR equipment quickly and safely
• Effective teamwork and clear communication with surgeons, nurses, and ancillary staff
• Ability to prioritize patient safety and anticipate team needs in high-stakes situations
