Roles & Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Infection Prevention & Control program that aligns with CDC, CMS, OSHA, TJC, FDA, and APIC guidance
• Lead HAI surveillance: collect, analyze, trend, and report infection data accurately and on time (including NHSN reporting)
• Translate regulatory requirements and evidence-based practices into clear policies, procedures, and staff education
• Design and deliver engaging IPC education and training for staff, patients, families, and communities
• Chair the IPC committee and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and public health partners
• Oversee Employee Health program activities and provide supervisory leadership as needed
• Use data and performance improvement methods to evaluate program effectiveness and drive measurable outcomes
• Travel to regional sites (by ferry, small plane, or jet) to assess practices, coach teams, and ensure consistent IPC standards system-wide

Qualifications

• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska — or active RN license in another U.S. state with application for Alaska licensure submitted prior to start (for direct hires)
• Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or similar) required; Master's (MPH, MSN) preferred
• Certification in Infection Control and Prevention (CIC) required
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification — current within 3 months of hire and maintained biannually
• Minimum 3 years of acute care and/or infection control, data collection, performance improvement, or risk management experience
• Clinical and manager competency demonstrations within 3 months of hire and ongoing per policy
• Supervisory experience and demonstrated project management/performance improvement skills

Education

• Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or related healthcare field (required)
• Master's degree (MPH, MSN) preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent (baseline requirement noted in policy)

Knowledge & Skills

• Practical knowledge of epidemiology, infectious disease principles, and surveillance methods
• Experience with data analysis, basic statistics, and NHSN reporting
• Strong skills in MS Office and database applications for accurate data entry and reporting
• Ability to synthesize regulatory guidance and craft clear policies and educational materials
• Excellent written and verbal communication tailored to diverse, multicultural audiences
• Comfortable working independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to regulatory compliance
