Roles & Responsibilities

Provide direct, compassionate care for progressive care patients from admission through discharge, ensuring safe, evidence-based practice
Assess, monitor and interpret patient status (telemetry, EKG) and intervene promptly for changes in condition
Operate and manage advanced medical equipment including ventilatory support, arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes and multiple IV pumps
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (providers, charge nurse, ancillary staff) to coordinate care and achieve positive patient outcomes
Perform discharge planning and patient/family education to promote safe transitions home
Serve as a clinical leader: precept new staff, mentor colleagues, and assist with unit-level improvements
Delegate and provide direction to RN, LPN, CNA and support staff while maintaining quality and safety standards

Qualifications

Current Montana RN licensure required
BLS, ACLS, PALS required or obtainable within 6 months of hire
EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
Practice experience in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit with recent Progressive Care or Critical Care nursing experience required
Comfort and competence with ventilatory support, invasive lines, chest tubes, arterial lines and multiple IV pumps
Ability to assess and implement policies and procedures with minimal supervision; strong clinical judgment and communication skills

Education

Degree from a Nursing Program

Knowledge & Skills

Patient assessment and advanced nursing procedures
Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
Ventilator management and noninvasive/invasive ventilatory support
Management of central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes and nasogastric tubes
IV therapy and use of multiple IV pumps
Care for post-PCI, pacemaker, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, sepsis and other progressive care populations
Pediatric experience preferred
Team collaboration, leadership and precepting skills
